Gary Guggemos never dreamt that when he made his first Wool Melton jacket with leather trim in 1980, it would be the springboard for Black Diamond Sportswear. Nestled in the Green Mountains in Waitsfield, Vermont, Gary manufactured leather bags and wool jackets in a small loft over a fantastic bakery (BIG problem for Gary). Vermont's ever changing elements made Waitsfield an excellent location for Gary to develop and test all types of garments for many outdoor activities.

Since those early days much has changed-wool has given way to new fabrics for outdoor/ski activities-synthetic fabrics we now love and cherish. Unfortunately, offshore manufacturing of these synthetics has decimated the textile industry in the United States.

Black Diamond Sportswear has grown considerably since those days, and they have embraced many new fabrics and trends, but the things that have stayed constant are their never-ending quest for innovation, quality garments, and to remain (however difficult): Made in the USA.
